Dr. Ismail Badran received his BA and MA degrees in Chemistry from An-Najah National University in 2000. He worked as a science and mathematics teacher at UNRWA schools for four years, during which he obtained a diploma in education and psychology from the same agency. He immigrated to Canada in 2002 and worked with several Canadian companies before joining the Institute of Applied Technology in the United Arab Emirates in 2005, where he headed the Science and Mathematics Education Department at that institute for four years. Dr. Ismail received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Calgary in Canada in 2014. Dr. Ismail worked at Birzeit University and Qatar University, and is currently an Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at An-Najah National University.
Dr. Ismail has more than 25 peer-reviewed research publications in prestigious journals, in addition to his numerous participation in local and international conferences. Dr. Ismail has received many awards and grants, including the Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship in 2012 and a fellowship grant for Palestinian researchers in 2018.
Dr. Ismail's research focuses on the fields of energy and environment, particularly the study of the mechanics and kinetics of the chemical reactions responsible for these processes. Dr. Ismail's recent achievements include the design and implementation of a photocatalytic reactor for use in treating industrial water from pharmaceutical pollutants, and the preparation of a special photocatalyst for use in the process. Dr. Badran has also worked on studying new purification methods for treating industrial water, especially those resulting from Canadian oil sands fields, and converting pollutants in these waters into useful chemicals, while maintaining the lowest percentage of carbon dioxide emissions CO2 . Dr. Ismail is also currently focusing on research into converting natural gas into high-value chemicals such as gasoline, using environmentally friendly technology.
Dr. Ismail supervised many graduate students, in addition to coordinating many university courses, and his services in the field of developing university education. Dr. Ismail is also interested in the problem of education in the Arab world and has a book project on the same topic.
