Asem Khalil, a Professor of Public Law, currently occupies the Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Chair in Constitutional and International Law at Birzeit University. With a distinguished academic career, Khalil has held several key positions at Birzeit University, including Vice President for Community Affairs from 2016 to 2020, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration from 2012 to 2015, and Director of the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute for International Studies from 2010 to 2012.
Khalil's academic credentials include a doctorate in public law from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, a master’s degree in public administration from the National School of Administration in France, and a doctorate in civil and canon law from the Lateran University in Italy. He has also enriched his academic experience as a visiting scholar at New York University School of Law (2009-2010 and 2015-2016) and at the Max Planck Institute in Germany (summer 2015).
