Georgia Technical University in
Atlanta, one of the largest universities in America and the world, honored our
dear beloved Professor-Dr. PhD in the field of chemistry from this university,
congratulations, and he deserves this honor well deserved
The following is a glimpse of his
career. He was born in Palestine in 1948. His father is my uncle, the father of
my beloved wife, Ataf Dabdoub, and his mother is my aunt and my second mother,
Fatima Mahmoud, may God have mercy on them.
Signs of intelligence and
superiority appeared on our dear doctor since his primary, middle and high
school studies in Beirut schools, where his family resided after the Nakba. He
was always the first, which encouraged some of his distinguished professors in
Beirut to nominate him for a full scholarship to study at the American
University in Beirut. He did not like it, so he applied for a master's degree
in chemistry at the University of Georgia in America, and there was a condition
for passing a special chemistry exam, in addition to several other subjects.
The number of applicants was 20 people from multiple countries, most of them
from Southeast Asia, China, Japan and Korea. In addition to one Egyptian, after
submitting the examination, he was summoned by the university administration
and told him that he was the best among all, and they offered him to study a
doctorate directly instead of a master's degree with a full scholarship. And
appointing him directly at the university as a teaching assistant to teach new
students the subject of chemistry in addition to supervising the laboratories
in exchange for an appropriate monthly salary. He went directly to the labor
market, where he worked in a company for the production of chemicals, and after
a short period he took over its entire management and worked in it for nearly
15 years, during which he expanded it and improved its work and introduced
everything new. The company disputed with his sons and daughters about the
inheritance of the company, and here our dear doctor preferred to resign and
established his own company, which expanded and is still managed until now
I know Dr. Atef very closely. He
and I and his sister, my wife, always talk on the phone, at least once a week,
and sometimes several times a day. We visited him several times in America,
sometimes alone and sometimes with my wife. The nature of my work in the field
of oil requires travel on official missions, and we always pass by, and
sometimes after the end of the mission, we go on vacation for weeks, especially
when my wife accompanies me.
I had a good impression of Dr.
Atef. He is a very intelligent, ethical, simple and uncomplicated person who
helps others in all fields. Generous to the extreme, humble and affectionate.
