Younis Murshid Younis Amr (born on April 6, 1947 in Dura) is a Palestinian university professor, writer, and researcher specializing in Arabic and oriental languages. He held the position of President of Al-Quds Open University between 2000 and 2021.

 

Education and educational attainment

Younis Murshid Younis Amr was born in 1947 in the city of Dura, in the south of the West Bank, to a father from Dura and a mother from Halhul. He received his school education between Dura and Hebron. He traveled to Lebanon, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Arabic from Beirut Arab University in 1970. He completed his higher education when he obtained master's and doctoral degrees in Arabic and Oriental languages from Alexandria University.

Amr worked as a teacher and educator in Libya from 1973 to 1977, then returned to the West Bank to work within Hebron University, where he started as a lecturer in 1977, then dean of the Faculty of Arts in 1980, and later dean of the Faculty of Scientific Research in 1985. He contributed to the establishment of Al-Quds Open University, whose activities began In the occupied territories in the academic year 1990-1991, where he was the director of the Hebron Educational District. In 2000, he was appointed as its president until 2021. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Istiqlal University.

 

In 2009, he won the Fatah Revolutionary Council elections that were held during the Sixth Fatah Movement Conference in Bethlehem and became a member of it. On December 4, 2016, Amr again won the membership of the Council.
