Maher al-Bitar is a Palestinian jurist and politician who currently serves as the Senior Director of Intelligence at the National Security Council, a key position that serves as the day-to-day link between the intelligence community and the White House. Maher Bitar served as Director of Israeli and Palestinian Affairs on the National Security Council at the White House. On the recommendation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maher worked as the Foreign Affairs Officer in the Office of the Special Envoy for Peace in the Middle East. Maher holds a JD from Georgetown University and is a member of the Maryland Bar Association. Maher is a graduate of the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He also received a Master of Science degree in Forced Migration from Oxford University’s Refugee Studies Center while on a Marshall Scholarship. He has worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Malaysia and also worked for the UN agency. United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jerusalem.
