Professor Salah El-Din Al-Batran, Medical Director of the Institute of Clinical
Oncology Research and Executive Director of the Institute of Clinical Cancer
Research at Northwest Hospital in Frankfurt, received the German Cancer Prize
for the year 2022 for his scientific research and innovation in advanced,
non-traditional treatments that contributed to saving the lives of cancer
patients.
Dr.
Al-Batran is considered one of the most famous specialists in the world in the
field of stomach and esophageal cancer, and he is the pioneer in the
development of chemotherapy (FLOT-Therapie), which is given before and after
the surgical removal of tumors of the stomach and esophagus.
According
to the German Cancer Society, this treatment significantly improves patients'
chances of survival and the results of its research gave an impetus to
"change the global treatment standards for stomach and esophageal
cancer."
It is
noteworthy that the Cancer Prize, amounting to 7,500 euros, is awarded annually
by the German Cancer Society (DKG). This year, in addition to Dr. Al-Batran,
two German physicians researching cancer at the University of Heidelberg received
