Information
Ahmed Tanira (24 years old) is a Palestinian doctor from the city of Gaza. He is a graduate of the Department of Medical Optics at the Faculty of Science at The Islamic University of Gaza.
He developed a treatment for adult amblyopia (“lazy eye”) using computer-based technology through his project Optomedicine, which was incubated under the “Mubadirun” initiative at the Islamic University of Gaza and funded by Taawon (Welfare Association).
Tanira stated that he was able to identify the root cause of the condition by examining how light enters the eye and is processed by the brain, focusing on the mechanism within the cerebral cortex. He explained that this achievement improves the patient’s visual performance and enhances their ability to manage daily tasks, which aligns with his goal of advancing optical medical services for individuals and healthcare institutions in general.
