Information
Adnan Shihab-Eldin is a Kuwaiti national of Palestinian origin. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Nuclear Engineering.
He served as an advisor to the Office of the Prime Minister of Kuwait, responsible for nuclear energy affairs until 1976. He is also the Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.
He served as the Director of the Regional Office for Science and Technology for the Arab States at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). He was later appointed Director of the Africa, East Asia, and Pacific Division in the Technical Cooperation Department of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He is considered the first expert from Kuwait to be appointed to a senior position within the Agency.
He was also nominated by Kuwait for the position of Secretary-General of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
