Riyad Sawafteh is an American nuclear physicist and inventor of Palestinian origin from the village of Bardala in the Tubas district. He holds a PhD in Nuclear Physics from the University of Alberta in Canada.
He began his academic journey at Indiana University in Bloomington but soon left to join the United States Department of Energy as a nuclear scientist. He later helped establish the Graduate Program in Nuclear Physics in North Carolina. Concurrently, he worked at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Virginia.
Riyad Sawafteh founded QuarTek in North Carolina, a nanotechnology company focused on developing innovations for the benefit of humanity. He holds numerous patents and has authored over 150 scientific papers.
