Information

Palestinian journalist and historian, (1916-1976) was born in Jaffa in 1916. He received his education in Jaffa and then completed it at the Islamic College in Beirut. His book The History of the Arab Press in Palestine was published in Amman in 1966. He was the editor-in-chief of one of the Palestinian newspapers in Jaffa, Al-Rai Al-Aam, since its founding in Jaffa in 1946, and he continued to issue it even after the Nakba. He moved to Beirut as a refugee and there he continued to issue it, and in late 1949 He moved to Jordan and lived in Jerusalem and continued publishing them until a decision was issued to cancel the franchise of a number of newspapers and magazines, and public opinion was among them, so they ceased publication.

After the 1948 Nakba, al-Akkad and his family (his wife and three daughters) fled to Jordan, where he was paralyzed in 1960, and remained so until his death. He lived in the Yarmouk camp in Damascus, where he died in 1977 and was buried in the Dahdah cemetery.

He was a multi-professional. He worked in carpentry for several years, and in 1935 he was appointed as a teacher at the Amiri School (Salama) - east of the city of Jaffa - but he resigned from this job after one year to work as a press editor in the daily (Islamic University), which was owned by Sheikh Suleiman Al-Taji. Al-Faruqi, and soon Ahmed Khalil Al-Akkad moved from it to the daily (Palestine Newspaper), which was its owner and editor-in-chief (Raja Al-Absi), and then left it to the Defense Journal, which was owned by Ibrahim Al-Shanti, who also headed its editor. Al-Akkad remained there until 1936.

Al-Akkad became involved in union activities, where in 1945 he founded the Palestinian Carpentry Workers Syndicate and was elected as its secretary - and in 1945 he had opened a factory or workshop for the manufacture of furniture - and also participated in the founding of the (Palestinian Arab Workers Association) and was elected a member of its administrative body.

His National Folk Poetry Diwan in Palestine was published in Beirut in 1939


In 1946, a book was published in Jaffa, Palestine, entitled (Who Is Who) identifies the men of Palestine and introduces them to the sons of the nation.
