The distinguished author, journalist, and translator Khairi Husni Hammad was born in Nablus. He graduated from the Salahiyya School in 1931 and received his higher education diploma from the Arab College in Jerusalem in 1933. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts at the American University of Beirut in 1936. During his university studies, he published his first article in the newspaper Al-Nahar on the occasion of the Balfour Declaration and was named editor of the "Students' Page" published by Al-Nahar. He also served as editor-in-chief of the magazine Al-Kulliya. He worked as a teacher in secondary schools in Baghdad, Basra, and Sulaymaniyah. He left teaching to dedicate himself to journalism and became editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Al-Istiqlal in Baghdad, which was the voice of the national movement in Iraq. He was arrested and transferred to the desert prison of Nuqrat al-Salman. He returned to Palestine in 1943 and became editor-in-chief of the newspaper Al-Difaa in Jaffa from 1943 to 1946. He launched Al-Mustaqbal in Jerusalem in 1946, a weekly magazine, and continued its publication until the end of 1947. He also served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper Al-Wahda. He launched a news bulletin in Amman called the "Arab News Agency" and became the editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper "Al-Urdun." He worked in journalism in Beirut and Damascus. He moved to Cairo in 1962 and devoted himself to writing and translation. He served as Secretary-General of the Union of Palestinian Writers and Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab Writers Union. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Supreme Council for Arts and Literature in the United Arab Republic. He received the Order of Merit from the United Arab Republic in recognition of his efforts in the intellectual field, as he enriched the Arab library with one hundred and twenty books, both authored and translated.
