Information
Our colleague Amer Abdel-Hadi (43 years old), director and founder of Radio Tariq Al-Mahabba, which broadcasts from Nablus, has passed away.
In a statement issued by the radio station's management, the Abdel-Hadi family and Radio Tariq Al-Mahabba mourned the deceased, who died in the early hours of Friday, November 10, 2006, from injuries sustained in a tragic car accident in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The late Amer Ibrahim Abdel-Hadi, known as Abu Omar (married with three children, the eldest being 16 years old), was born in Nablus. He was the son of the well-known businessman, the late Ibrahim Abdel-Hadi, founder of Radio Tariq Al-Mahabba in Nablus in 1997. It was the first private Palestinian radio station, and he worked to develop it to serve Palestinian media. The station's staff currently includes more than 20 broadcasters and journalists. Abdel-Hadi traveled to Dubai two years ago and helped establish a company there until his tragic death on Friday morning in a car accident in Dubai.
The deceased always sought to develop local media through Radio Tariq Al-Mahabba, which was subjected to more than one attack during the Israeli incursions. The radio station was bombed by Israeli planes in 2002, and broadcasting equipment was confiscated three times by the occupation forces. But “Abu Omar,” out of his keenness to continue his national media mission, worked hard to rebuild it and with greater development than before, and the radio station still broadcasts its programs from the city of Nablus to the whole world through the information network.
