Hussam Al-Din Muhammad Izz Al-Din Hamdan was born in the town of Dura Al-Qara’ in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate on December 24, 1966. He is married and has four sons and one daughter. He completed his primary education at the UNRWA-run Jalazone Camp School and his secondary education at Ain Yabrud Secondary School, graduating in 1985. He earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Birzeit University in 1995, a professional diploma in journalism from Birzeit University, and a diploma in journalism from the International Press Institute in Berlin in 1995. He also completed a course in media research at the Media Development Center and a course in training trainers at the Institute for Continuing Education for Journalists in Sweden in 2009.
He specialized in print journalism, writing newspaper articles, and paid particular attention to sports journalism. He worked as a journalist for Al-Ayyam newspaper in 1995 and had been working with Agence France-Presse (AFP) since 1996.
Hamdan became involved in national work from his early youth, and he was a nationally active element during the First Palestinian Intifada. He participated in planning and implementing a number of national activities at that time. He was also active at the union level, obtaining membership in the General Secretariat of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, and was the Secretary of the Syndicate. He represented the Palestinian press in more than one meeting and gathering abroad, whether in the Arab world, Europe, or the United States. He was present at the local level, as he was the head of the village council in Dura al-Qara’ between (2012-2014). He was active in sports, as he was one of the founders of the Dura al-Qara’ Club, and headed it for several terms. He was active in the Palestinian Football Association, where he headed the Central Region in the Federation, and obtained membership in the Palestinian Sports Media Union.
Hamdan has received a number of awards, including an award for journalistic coverage of the Legislative Council in 1996, the Integrity Award for Journalists in 2007, the Annual Return Award for Journalistic Story (2008-2009), and an award for combating corruption from the International Academy Austria in 2012.
Hamdan suffered greatly throughout his life, having been arrested by the occupation forces four times and spending a total of five and a half years in their prisons. He was also prevented from traveling for a period of time. He died on July 3, 2025.
