Majed Sarhan (~1940 - August 29, 2001) , Palestinian media and radio broadcaster, one of the most distinguished writers and editors of Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, famous for his distinctive voice on the BBC ( Here is London ).
His career
Majed Sarhan was born in the village of Halhul in the West Bank . He began his career as a history and English teacher in several schools in the West Bank and Jordan , and also worked for Jordanian television in the late 1960s. He later worked as a newscaster and presenter for nearly thirty years on the BBC, and was for a period an editorial consultant for the BBC's Al-Mushahid Al-Siyasi magazine.
His death
Majed Sarhan died at the age of 61 in the British capital, London, after a two-year struggle with illness. He was buried in his homeland, according to his will. The funeral was held in a large procession attended by thousands of the deceased’s relatives, friends, and residents of his town and neighboring Palestinian cities and villages, with an official presence from Palestinian Authority officials in the Hebron area and police and preventive security personnel affiliated with the Palestinian Authority.
