Information
Linda Sobh Ali (born 1968 in Ramallah) is a Palestinian diplomat and politician.
Upbringing and working life
Born in Ramallah in 1968, she lived in the United States where she was president of the Palestinian-American Congress. She worked with the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 2010 and 2011 where she was acting representative of the Palestinian National Authority to Canada, and during her tenure the government of Stephen Harper refused to recognize the State of Palestine. In October 2011, Sobh shared a post on Twitter, which included a video of a Palestinian girl reading a poem that the Canadian government deemed offensive to Jews and declared Sobh unwelcome and asked to leave the country. Sobh expressed regret over the incident and resigned from the post. Salah Basmala of the University of Ottawa's School of Translation later said that the poem was about fighting Zionism and not against the Jewish people.
On October 2, 2013, Sobh was appointed Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Venezuela and was with the rank of Senior Advisor. In 2015, she was promoted to the rank of ambassador. In November 2016, Sobh presented her credentials as a non-resident ambassador of the State of Palestine to Guyana. In February 2020, she also presented her credentials as a non-resident ambassador of the State of Palestine to Saint Kitts and Nevis.
