Bassam Ahmed Omar Al-Salihi is a Palestinian politician, the Secretary-General of the Palestinian People's Party (formerly the Communist Party), and a deputy in the Palestinian Legislative Council on the left-leaning "Al-Badil" list. Bassam Al-Salihi was born in Al-Amari camp in 1960. He obtained a master's degree in international studies, and has many books and intellectual and political studies. He served as President of the Birzeit University Student Council between 1979-1981, and is a member of the National Steering Committee. He led the struggle of the student movement against the Camp David Accords, and because of that he was arrested several times and placed under house arrest.

 

He was a member of the Unified National Command of the First Intifada. He was arrested in 1990 and sentenced to three years in prison and the same suspended sentence. With the outbreak of the Tunnel Intifada in 1996, and the Al-Aqsa Intifada and Independence in 2000, he participated in its leadership bodies with other national forces, frameworks.

 

Member of the Palestinian National Council, the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and the follow-up committee on the file of the apartheid wall in the Hague Court, and was part of the Palestinian delegation to attend court sessions. And a member of the follow-up team, which devoted its activities to mobilizing international support for the Palestinian people.
