Information
Madani Muhammad al-Madani was born in the village of Kafr Sabt, Tiberias district, in the occupied interior, on October 1, 1946. He studied primary and secondary education in the town of Daburiyya in the Galilee in the occupied interior. He worked as governor of the Bethlehem Governorate between (2001-2003).
He joined Fatah after 1967 and lived in its bases in Lebanon. He was an aide to Khalil al-Wazir, a Fatah leader and head of its Western Sector. Al-Madani became a member of Fatah's Central Committee in 2009, and head of the Committee for Communication with Israeli Society, a body affiliated with the PLO, in 2012. He also served as head of the Mobilization and Organization Commission in the northern districts of Fatah, and then as head of the Commission for Popular Organizations within the movement since 2022.
Al-Madani defines the conflict with the occupation as a political conflict, not a religious one. He calls for the continuation of negotiations to undermine the Israeli government. He believes that the two-state solution, the establishment of a state on the June 4, 1967 borders, and the return of refugees is the most appropriate solution to the conflict in Palestine. He believes that the occupation exploits the Palestinian political division for its own benefit. He considers dialogue with the Israeli occupation to be in the Palestinian national interest. He believes that the meetings he holds with Israeli figures are not normalization, because normalization, in his opinion, takes place between official institutions. He describes the work of the Committee for Communication with “Israeli Society” as coming within the framework of political engagement with the occupation and an attempt to achieve breakthroughs within “Israeli society.” He believes that its work complements the efforts of the President of the Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, to build Palestinian-Israeli bridges.
