Information

Osama Attia Ahmed Al-Muzaini was born in Gaza City on March 16, 1966. He is married and has five daughters and three sons. He completed his preparatory and secondary education in Gaza schools, graduating from high school in 1984. He earned a bachelor's degree in physics from the Islamic University of Gaza, a master's degree in counseling and mental health from Ain Shams University in Egypt, a second master's degree in psychology from the Islamic University of Gaza in 2001, and a doctorate in psychological counseling and mental health from Ain Shams University in 2005. He worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Education at the Islamic University of Gaza between 2014 and 2020, and served as head of the psychology department at the university in 2015.

Al-Muzaini joined the Muslim Brotherhood early on and joined Hamas immediately after its founding in 1987, where he married the daughter of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the founder of the movement. He participated in its various advocacy and political activities and held several positions in the movement, as he was the head of the movement’s Shura Council in the Gaza Strip from 2021 until his martyrdom. He was a member of the movement’s political bureau in the Gaza Strip, and he was responsible for negotiations in the file of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit and the Wafa al-Ahrar deal in 2011.

He was active in institutional work; he was the head of the student council at the Islamic University in 1987, and served as a member of the board of directors of the Al-Salah Islamic Association, a member of the board of directors of the Islamic Complex, and vice chairman of the board of trustees of Dar Al-Arqam School. He also served as Minister of Education between 2011 and 2014.

Al-Muzaini presented many meetings, dialogues and studies that deal with the various aspects of the Palestinian cause. He published many articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, conducted interviews and dialogues at the local and international levels, participated in reconciliation dialogues and popular and activist solidarity vigils, and authored books, including the psychology of advocacy.

Al-Muzaini believes that Hamas is keen on Palestinian unity and internal cohesion, and is ready to submit to the will of the Palestinian people through comprehensive elections. He believes that the occupation was deceived by the Trump administration’s promises of the Deal of the Century and its recognition of Jerusalem as its capital, and annexed more land, thinking that it had gained additional power as a result of normalization deals with some Arab countries, so it continued its aggression against Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa. However, the resistance proved to it that those promises were dreams, that those deals were a losing trade, and that the Zionist project is a loser and is doomed to disappear.

Al-Muzaini suffered greatly under the occupation; he was arrested six times, most notably in 1988 when he spent six years in prison. He was also placed under administrative detention twice and twice imprisoned by the Palestinian security services. He was killed in an Israeli airstrike along with several members of his family during the Battle of Al-Aqsa on October 16, 2023.
