Corruption allegations
Administrative corruption
Azzam Al-Ahmad was accused of administrative and financial corruption, as he appointed his wife’s sister, Khawla Al-Shakhshir , as Minister of Education in the consensus government due to their kinship in 2014.
Financial corruption
In 2010, Palestinian intelligence officer Fahmi Shabana al-Tamimi revealed the involvement of Azzam al-Ahmad and his brother, the PLO lawyer in Jordan, Allam al-Ahmad, in receiving $1,950,000 in a fictitious deal to purchase a plot of land in Jordan .
His insolence towards the divine self
In 2007, during a program broadcast by the Lebanese Hezbollah -owned Al-Manar TV channel, Al-Ahmad attacked the advisor to the Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Yousef, which discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and the conditional American aid that the Fatah movement and the Palestinian presidency receive in exchange for implementing Israeli-American conditions and agreements. Al-Ahmad was recorded speaking in which he used words that were offensive to the divine self, which he said explicitly in response to a question directed to him that the Fatah movement receives conditional American money: “ If conditional aid came to us from the Lord of the servants, we would not accept it.”
Reactions
Dr. Ahmed Yousef, the political advisor to the Palestinian Prime Minister, confirmed that Al-Ahmad had harmed himself and his movement by attacking the divine being.
As for the jurist Dr. Yunus Al-Asttal , he responded that uttering such a hadith constitutes disbelief and that Islam must be renewed because what comes from Allah must be accepted by the slaves. He said: “Our situation with Allah is like that of slaves who have no choice in receiving from Allah, according to the statement of Allah, the Most High: ‘It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter, that they should have any choice in their decision. ’ This is if the matter is a matter of obligation, even if the obligation is difficult, as Allah, the Most High, says: ‘And even if We had decreed upon them, ‘Kill yourselves’ or ‘Leave your homes. ’ So how would it be if what came down from Allah was a divine favor, and Allah is the possessor of grace and favor, and Allah bestows favors upon His slaves without needing them, because the obedience of the slaves does not benefit Him and the disobedience of the slaves does not harm Him. Therefore, this statement is considered apostasy from Islam that requires renewing the religion by uttering the two testimonies of faith anew and performing the ritual ablution of Islam, and it is recommended that he pray two rak’ahs to renew his religion.”
His vision for negotiations with Israel
Azzam al-Ahmad considers negotiations with Israel to be one of the forms of struggle, and they are more important than military struggle, and that the latter aims to strengthen negotiations. He said in January 2014, during a meeting with political and media figures in Amman : ( Yes, “life is negotiations... and negotiations are part of the resistance .”) He believes that the current stage is not a stage of armed struggle, as he said: ( The current stage is not a stage of armed struggle against “Israel,” because we do not have the ability to do so )
Rejection of establishing a port in Gaza
At the end of February 2016, he pledged to thwart any attempt to establish a seaport for Gaza linking the Gaza Strip and the Turkish island of Cyprus . Al-Ahmad said during an interview on Palestine TV that what is being discussed is “not a port, but rather a buoy with Turkish Cyprus, which no one recognizes, and we do not recognize it either.” He added, “We recognize a united, loyal, friendly Cyprus that stood with the Palestinian revolution in the darkest of circumstances, and we will not give up the unity of Cyprus, just like the Cypriots.” He pointed out that the goal of establishing the port or these attempts is to “fundamentally harm the Palestinian-Cypriot relationship.” He concluded by saying, “No matter what attempts are made, we will be able to thwart any attempt to establish a port, electricity, or negotiations that contradict the supreme Palestinian national interests.” This led to a media wave on news websites and social media rejecting his position.
