Ali Ahmad Halimeh (born 1953 in Tyre – died 16 September 2012 in South Africa ) was a Palestinian diplomat , the first representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization to Zimbabwe , and the first resident ambassador of the Palestinian Authority to the Republic of Ireland . He also served as ambassador to South Africa until his death.
His life
Ali Halimeh was born in the Lebanese city of Tyre in 1953 to a Palestinian family that had migrated from the town of Tarshiha in northern Mandatory Palestine as a result of the 1948 war .
He received his school and university education in Lebanon , where he obtained a BA in Arabic Language and Literature from Beirut Arab University in 1976.
He joined the Fatah movement , and witnessed the Lebanese Civil War and the 1982 Lebanon War .
He worked as a diplomat in the Palestinian mission to Tanzania, and in 1983 he was assigned the duties of the Palestine Liberation Organization representative to Zimbabwe, a position he held until 1999.
Later in 2001, he was appointed as the Palestinian Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland and continued until 2005.
He was appointed Ambassador to South Africa in 2005, presented his credentials in 2006 and served until his death on 16 September 2012.
His health condition
Halima suffered from kidney failure, and underwent a kidney transplant in Britain in 1998.
