Bassam Ahmed Omar Al-Salhi (1960-) is a Palestinian politician , elected Secretary-General of the Palestinian People's Party in 2008 and a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council on the Alternative List in the 2006 elections, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization . 

His biography

Bassam Al-Salhi was born in the Amari refugee camp in the city of Ramallah to a family that originated from the occupied city of Lod, from which they were displaced as a result of the Palestinian Nakba in 1948. He studied primary school in the schools of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) . He joined Birzeit University near Ramallah in 1978, and continued his studies there until he obtained a master's degree in international studies in 1997. During his studies at the university, he was elected president of the Student Union Council for two years (1979-1981). During this period, he led the student movement's struggle against the Camp David Accords , and because of that, he was arrested in Israeli prisons several times and placed under house arrest . He was also active in the first Palestinian Intifada and was a member of the Unified National Leadership . He was arrested again in 1990 for 3 years.

Membership of the National Steering Committee .
Member of the Palestinian National Council .
Member of the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization .
Member of the Follow-up Committee on the Racist Wall File at the Hague Court and was part of the Palestinian delegation to attend the court sessions.
Member of the Follow-up Team dedicated to mobilizing international support for the Palestinian people.
He assumed the position of Minister of Culture in the Palestinian government formed in March 2007.
