Azmi Al-Daqa (born 28 April 1960 in Attil, Palestine – died 22 May 2017 in Warsaw, Poland ) was a Palestinian diplomat and politician . He was appointed in January 2012 as the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Poland and continued to serve until his death. He was also previously the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Nigeria and Benin .
His life
Azmi Ahmad Nassar Daqqa was born in the town of Attil in the Tulkarm Governorate in the northern West Bank on April 28, 1960. Daqqa served as head of the Palestinian medical team in Sierra Leone from 1986 to 1988 , worked in the political department of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Tunis from 1988 to 1990, served as chargé d'affaires and head of the Palestinian mission in Manila , Philippines from 1991 to 1993, and served as deputy ambassador of the State of Palestine to Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . He was appointed ambassador of the State of Palestine to Nigeria from 2006 to 2011, and was appointed non-resident ambassador of the State of Palestine to Benin from 2011 to 2017.
Death
Azmi Al-Daqqa died in a hospital in the Polish capital Warsaw on May 22, 2017, after suffering from a terminal illness . His body arrived in the West Bank via the Karameh crossing on May 28, 2017, and he was buried the same day in the cemetery of his hometown, Attil, in the Tulkarm Governorate .
Achievements and Awards
Medals
On 27 May 2017, the President of the Republic of Poland awarded him the Commander's Cross for Merit to Accuracy.
On May 30, 2017, President Mahmoud Abbas awarded the Order of Merit and Excellence (Silver) to Al-Daqqa in his honor.
