Firas Abdel Rahim Hamdan Melhem (born November 28 , 1970 in Halhul ) is a Palestinian jurist and economist who has held the position of Governor of the Palestinian Monetary Authority since the decision to appoint him on January 3, 2021. He is a member of the Palestinian Bar Association.
His life
He obtained a bachelor's degree in 1993 from Morocco , a master's degree from Birzeit University in 2000, and a doctorate in law in 2004 from Belgium .
Melhem worked as a lecturer at the Institute of Law at Birzeit University between 2004 and 2009. Between 2007 and 2009, he also worked as an advisor to the Palestinian Minister of Interior, Abdel Razzaq Al-Yahya, within the first government of Salam Fayyad .
On October 17, 2016, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas decided to reconstitute the Board of Directors of the Monetary Authority , and Melhem granted him membership.
On February 24, 2020, President Mahmoud Abbas decided to reconstitute the Board of Directors of the Monetary Authority , and Melhem continued as a member.
On January 3, 2021, President Mahmoud Abbas appointed him Governor of the Monetary Authority .
On January 11, 2023, he was appointed Governor of the State of Palestine at the Arab Monetary Fund .
On April 15, 2024, he was appointed a member of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Investment Fund .
