Said Shawa is a Palestinian Arab political leader who was the first mayor of Gaza City from 1906 to 1917 . [1] [2] He was also one of the most influential members of the Supreme Islamic Council in Gaza . He was an opponent of the British mandate over Palestine , and he was a supporter of the Ottoman Empire during World War I and a supporter of Amin al-Husseini , the Mufti of Jerusalem .
