Jihad Khalil Ibrahim al-Wazir (born on July 20, 1963) is a Palestinian economist who served as Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority from 2008 to 2015. Previously, he worked as Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance and International Planning, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance and Acting Minister of Finance between November 2005 and March 2006.
Educational attainment
Jihad Al-Wazir received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the United States in 1989, a master’s degree in engineering management from the Milwaukee University of Engineering in 1990, and a doctorate in public administration from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom in 2001.
practical life
On September 27, 2001, he was appointed Assistant Under-Secretary in the Palestinian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
On March 6, 2005, he was transferred from the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and appointed as Under-Secretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Finance.
On 14 October 2005, he was appointed as a representative of the Ministry of Finance and a member of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Monetary Authority.
On January 9, 2006, he was appointed a member of the National Committee to establish the National Park on Broadcasting Land.
On March 5, 2006, he was appointed as a representative of the Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Pension Agency.
On June 4, 2006, he was appointed Deputy Governor of the Monetary Authority.
On October 9, 2007, he was appointed as a representative of the Monetary Authority, as Chairman of the Administrative Committee to Supervise the Orphans Fund Administration and Development Corporation.
On January 1, 2008, he was appointed Governor of the Monetary Authority. On January 1, 2012, he was reassigned to the same position.
On September 17, 2013, he was appointed as Governor of the Monetary Authority and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Deposit Insurance Corporation.
On April 5, 2015, as Governor of the Monetary Authority, he was appointed as the head of the National Anti-Money Laundering Committee.
