Shehada Hassouna, the former mayor of Lod and a prominent Palestinian political and military leader, was arrested in Acre during the British Mandate of Palestine, and escaped from prison to Gaza and died there in 1960, and was a member of the Legislative Council in Gaza during the era of the Egyptian administration.
