Sami Fayez Khalil Muslim (born December 30, 1947 in Jerusalem) is a Palestinian politician, writer, and researcher, and a member of Fatah, its Revolutionary Council, and the Palestinian National Council. He was governor of Jericho Governorate between 2005 and 2007, and Governor of Tubas Governorate between 2007 and 2010. He worked as director of the Institute for Regional Studies at Al-Quds University.
Sami Muslim was born in Jerusalem on December 30, 1947, during the British Mandate period over Palestine. After the Palestinian Nakba in 1948, he migrated from west of Jerusalem to its east.
He received his school education at the Evangelical Lutheran School in Jerusalem and Beit Jala until 1965, and obtained his intermediate certificate in arts from Birzeit College in 1967. He studied political science at the American University of Beirut and obtained a bachelor's degree in 1969, and a master's degree in international relations in 1971 from the same university. Later he received a doctorate in political science from the University of Bonn, Germany, in 1975.
Muslim joined the Fatah movement in 1968 when he was a university student, and was a member of the General Union of Palestinian Students.
He worked as an assistant in the Department of Political Studies at the American University of Beirut in 1970. He was also a full-time researcher and writer at the Institute for Palestine Studies between 1972 and 1982. He was appointed director general of the Palestinian Information Center in Germany between 1973 and 1976, and between 1977 and 1979 he was the acting director of the Palestine Liberation Organization office in China.
Between 1979 and 1988, he held the position of Director General of the Office of the President of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and between 1988 and 1993 the position of Director General of the Office of the President of the State of Palestine. After the establishment of the Palestinian Authority, on May 8, 1995, he was assigned the duties of Director General of the Office of the President of the Palestinian National Authority until 2002, and an agent in the Presidential Office until 2005.
On February 19, 2005, he was appointed governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, and held the position until August 1, 2007, when he was appointed head of the Tourism Promotion Authority.
On November 20, 2007, he was appointed Governor of Tubas Governorate, and was granted the rank of Minister on December 3, 2008. He held the position until his retirement on March 10, 2010.
At the Fifth Congress of the Fatah movement in 1989 in Tunisia, he was elected as a member of the Revolutionary Council of the Fatah movement and continued until the convening of the Sixth Congress in 2009. He was also elected as a member of the Palestinian National Council in 1991.
On March 10, 2010, the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was awarded the Al-Quds Al-Sharif Medal “in appreciation and appreciation for his honorable service, faithfully and faithfully performing his work in the service of his homeland and the Palestinian people, and the realization of their inalienable rights to freedom, return, self-determination and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. »
