Issa Abdul Karim Ibrahim Abu Sharar (born November 28, 1936 ) is a Palestinian jurist and judge who served as President of the Palestinian Supreme Judicial Council in the period 2005-09, and he also served once again as the Presidency of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Presidency of the Palestinian Supreme Court and the Court of Cassation between 2019 And 2024.
Working life
Abu Sharar held several positions during his professional life, as he became president of the Court of Appeal for Income Cases as a judge of the Court of First Instance on March 1, 1997. On February 10, 1996, he was appointed as a judge in the Palestinian Central Court. Later, on June 1, 2000, he became a member of the Palestinian Supreme Judicial Council .
On July 22, 2005, he was appointed Vice President of the Palestinian Supreme Court. On October 31, 2005, he was appointed President of the Election Cases Court. On December 25, 2005, he was appointed President of the Palestinian Supreme Court and President of the Palestinian Supreme Judicial Council. On November 29, 2009, he was referred for retirement from his position as President of the Palestinian Supreme Court and President of the Palestinian Supreme Judicial Council .
On January 25, 2010, he was appointed Chairman of the independent committee to follow up on the recommendations of the Goldstone Report related to the Palestinian National Authority. On April 5, 2015, he became a member of the National Anti- Money Laundering Committee .
On July 15, 2019, he was appointed President of the Palestinian Supreme Court , and President of the Transitional Supreme Judicial Council. In January 2021, he was sworn in as President of the Supreme Judicial Council, and President of the Supreme Court and the Court of Cassation.
On March 12, 2024, President Mahmoud Abbas accepted Abu Sharar's resignation from his position as President of the Supreme Judicial Council .
