Hanan Karaman Munayyer is a Palestinian American who has worked as a molecular biologist in pharmaceutical research in New Jersey for 33 years (1970-2003). In 1992, Hanan and her husband Farah established the Palestinian Heritage Foundation as a nonprofit cultural and educational organization aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of Arab and, specifically, Palestinian culture and traditions. These aims have been pursued through lectures, live costume shows and museum exhibits in the United States and Canada.
Since 1992, Hanan has focused on her duties as president of the Palestinian Heritage Foundation; she designs and curates museum exhibits nationwide, featuring Palestinian and other Arab traditional dress, and has lectured extensively on the subject in museums, universities, and conferences. Hanan has co-produced and written the script of the video documentary “Palestinian Costumes and Embroidery: A Precious Legacy”, produced in1990, that was acquired by schools, universities, public libraries and other institutions. She has also written several articles on the subject in magazines in the US and Palestine. Additionally, Hanan has designed special kits for use in schools and public libraries, promoting Arab traditional art.

Achievements and Awards
Her book “Traditional Palestinian Costume: Origins and Evolution” was published by Interlink Books in May 2011, and is the result of 24 years of research into the origins of Arab textile arts and the evolution of Palestinian costume and crafts.
Hanan received the ATFP Award for Excellence in Arts Scholarship at ATFP's Sixth Annual Gala on October 19, 2011 in recognition of her book on traditional costumes. The Gala also featured an exhibition of Palestinian costumes and textiles coordinated by Hanan and the Palestine Heritage Foundation.
