Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali is a Palestinian veterinarian , entrepreneur, and pioneer of charitable work in Palestine . Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali was born on October 16, 1940 in the city of Nablus in the West Bank , and was the first head of the Veterinary Syndicate in Palestine.
His life
Abdul Rahim Muhammad Radi Taha al-Hanbali was born on October 16, 1940 in the city of Nablus in the West Bank of Palestine. He then moved with his family to Damascus in Syria , where he received his primary education at Al-Khalidiya Elementary School, then at Al-Ghazaliya Elementary School, then completed his preparatory education at Al-Jahiz School, then moved with his family to Kuwait, where he completed his secondary education in the science section at Al-Shuwaikh School in 1960. Abdul Rahim al-Hanbali then joined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Cairo University , but in the fourth year of his studies at the college, the Egyptian authorities expelled him from the university with other Palestinian students due to their political activity. He moved to Iraq and joined the University of Baghdad , graduating in 1965 with a specialization in animal surgery. He then returned to Cairo again and obtained a higher diploma in pharmaceutical and nutritional sciences from Cairo University in 1967.
Abdul Rahim al-Hanbali married and had ten children, five boys and five girls. The Israeli authorities pursued his son, Muhammad al-Hanbali, because he joined the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, until Israeli soldiers eventually assassinated him on September 5, 2003. The Israeli authorities also arrested his eldest son, pharmacist Omar al-Hanbali, for more than a year and a half.
His career
After graduating from university, Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali worked as a veterinarian in the Veterinary Medicine Department in Nablus. He held a number of administrative positions, starting with managing the Veterinary Medicine Department in Nablus in 1966, then managing the Veterinary Departments in Nablus, Qalqilya, Tulkarm and Salfit together until 1973. In 1973, Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali established the first veterinary medicine factory in Palestine and the Arab world, the Nablus Veterinary Medicine Factory, which later became Dana Pharmaceutical Products Company in 1992. Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali also established, in cooperation with other partners, the Aveco Veterinary Medicine Company in Amman, Jordan in 1978. In 1974, Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali became the first head of the Veterinary Medicine Syndicate in Palestine, a position he held for two consecutive terms. In addition to managing the Veterinary Medicine Department in Nablus, Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali was appointed Director General of the Field Diseases Department in Palestine starting in 1990. Until his retirement in 2000, he then lectured at the Faculty of Agriculture at An-Najah National University from 2000 to 2002. In 2005, Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali became a member of the Board of Trustees of Rawda College in Nablus, then Vice President of Rawda College, then in early 2019 he was chosen as a member of the Excellence Support Council at An-Najah National University.
Charity work
Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali was one of the founders of the Nablus Zakat Committee in 1977, which he headed from 1996 until the Palestinian division in 2007 when the Palestinian National Authority government issued a decision to dissolve the committee and form a new committee. Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali also headed the Charitable Endowment Committee in Nablus Governorate in 1988, then headed the Mosque Reconstruction Committee in Nablus Governorate, then became a member of the Civil Committee in Nablus starting in 2000, then was appointed a member of the Palestinian Supreme Council of Endowments. In 2014, Abdul Rahim Al-Hanbali was chosen as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Nablus Diwans, then in 2015 he became a member of the Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem.
