Information
Elizabeth Hanna Nasser
The first person whose biography the book highlights is Jerusalemite Elizabeth Hanna Nasser (1906-1986), who was one of the first Palestinian women to hold a university degree and the first woman to hold the position of director of the Department of Social Affairs in Jerusalem.
On a rainy day in February 1952, Elizabeth Nasser came across two little girls, five and six years old, in shabby, wet clothes, begging on the side of the road. She had the idea of establishing a home for homeless girls, and she took it upon herself to establish the Rawdat Al-Zuhur School, which she began by converting her bedroom into a classroom in which children would receive... Jerusalem and its daughters teach them about their free and independent homeland.
Elizabeth Hanna Nasser had a bold and strict personality that did not accept mistakes easily, and she refused to appoint any employee without a permanent smile on his face. She loved Jerusalem and, before her departure, asked those attending her funeral to walk around her coffin for a long time before burying her, so that her body could bid farewell to Jerusalem.
