Palestinian student Mufid Alawneh recently participated in the Asian Science Exhibition in South Korea, representing the State of Palestine, with funding from the Supreme Council for Creativity and Excellence, along with 31 countries and 362 projects in various fields.
Alawneh, who studies mechanical engineering at Palestine Technical University, Kadoorie, won two certificates for the best competing projects at the Asian Science Fair, the first for the best participating projects, and the second for the best project in the field of agriculture.
The project is an electronic control system that enables the farmer to remotely control the irrigation and fertilization of the crops, and detect the diseases that affect them, to ensure that the crops grow naturally and obtain the desired results.
Alawneh's idea for the project emerged after a research study that proved farmers' need for this method as a result of their preoccupation with travel, or their inability to reach their lands due to the difficult conditions and obstacles they are exposed to, especially from the occupation.
Alawneh's recent participation in South Korea was preceded by a series of participations in regional and international scientific conferences and exhibitions in recent years, during which he won many awards and advanced positions in Egypt and Tunisia.
