Jihad Abu Al-Assal , whose full name is Jihad Ali Muhammad Youssef (November 16, 1956 in Aqabat Jabr Camp ) , is a politician and Palestinian refugee . He was governor of Jericho and Al-Aghwar Governorate between 2018 and 2023. [1] [2]
His life [ edit ]
Abu Al-Asal was born in Aqabat Jaber camp, southwest of the city of Jericho , to a Palestinian refugee family as a result of the 1948 war from the village of Al-Bariyya in Ramla district . After the establishment of the Palestinian Authority, he joined the Preventive Security Service , and later worked in the Palestinian General Petroleum Authority . [3]
The Israeli army arrested Abu Al-Asal in 1976, and he spent only a year and a half in its prisons. He was subsequently arrested several times.
In 1981, he joined the Fatah movement while he was in Jordan , joined the Palestinian leadership in Tunisia , and rose through the organizational ranks until he was elected as its secretary in the Jericho and Al-Aghwar region in 2012. [3]
On September 13, 2018, he was appointed Governor of Jericho and Al-Aghwar Governorate . [1]
On November 27, 2019, the Israeli occupation army detained Abu Al-Assal near Jericho . [4]
On August 10, 2023, President Mahmoud Abbas referred him for retirement. [2]
