Palestinian Hidayat Esmat
Hassanein, from Gaza City, ranked ninth in the Asian continent in the debate
competition held in the Sultanate of Oman.
The competition was organized by
the Qatar Center in cooperation with the Debate Center of the Sultanate of Oman
in the capital, Muscat, from January 27 to February 2 of this month, with the
wide participation of more than 44 teams from different countries for the arts
of debate, specifically from the countries of the continent of Asia.
In an exclusive interview with
Al-Awda News Network, she said: Hedaya represented the Islamic University of
Gaza in this competition, which is one of the first participations in the
International Asian Debating Arts Championship.
There were many obstacles, but,
praise be to God, I overcame the difficulties and barriers that were hindering
my participation in the competition, and when I arrived, the surprise was that
everyone looked at the people of Palestine with love, respect and appreciation,
and admiration for the ability of the Palestinian people to organize local
competitions and participate extensively in international forums.
Hedaya expressed her feelings to
Al-Awda News Network, describing her happiness with her participation in the
competition, especially when she ascended the podium and the crowd chanted the
name of Palestine, saying that it was a feeling mixed with joy that the heart
could not contain, when I heard the name of my country shouted from the mouths
of the participants, and at that moment I lived an exceptional state and a
sense of pride and pride. Hedaya added that it was the first time that I
participated in an international competition of this level and momentum, and
therefore it was a joy that warmed my heart to see the Palestinian keffiyeh
worn by the arbitration staff, which amounts to 80 referees, and this rich case
is the most beautiful thing that happened to me in this tournament.
Hedaya explained to Al-Awda News
Network about the method of presenting debates, saying: It is an art based on
dialogue and disagreement in a constructive manner, according to specific
standards and templates, in which the speaker relies on formulating a speech
that includes evidence, arguments, and compelling evidence for what he says.
Hedaya noted that it was a purely
intellectual case of dialogue, which included various types, including
political, social, intellectual and various scientific ones.
Hedaya continued, the participants
are informed of the text of the case (i.e. the listed topic in which the debate
takes place) by placing the text of the case, and a draw is made between the
participants, who supports and who opposes, and two teams are sorted to debate
with each other, and each team is composed of three people, the first builds
the position and establishes the idea of the team, As for the second, he
supports this construction with more arguments, models, and evidence, and the
third person rearranges the team’s papers, refutes and summarizes what the
opposing team said, and responds to it in a creative way. The winning team, and
the advantage of this debate is that all of this happens in a few minutes that
do not exceed seven minutes.
Hedaya noted that the competition
is not as easy as some think, especially since it does not necessarily
represent our ideas, and in this way it expands the vision with support or
opposition, to see the issue from various angles, to reach the conclusion that most
topics bear discussion and dialogue.
Hedaya concluded her speech to
Al-Awda News Network that the time has come for the people of Palestine in
general and the people of Gaza in particular to overcome and overcome all
difficulties in order to represent the name of Palestine and raise it high in
all international forums and competitions.
It is worth mentioning that Hedaya
Ismat Hassanein, a graduate of the Department of Da'wah and Media from the
Islamic University of Gaza, participated in a local tournament for the local
debate competition at the level of Palestinian universities and won first place
at the level of universities in 2019.
