Jaafar Touqan (January 19, 1938 -
November 25, 2014) was a Jordanian architect of Palestinian origin. He was born
in Jerusalem, and he is one of the most famous architects of modernity in the
Arab world. He is the son of the Palestinian poet Ibrahim Touqan from the city
of Nablus in the West Bank. He contributed to major projects in most Arab
countries, starting from Jordan. He held the position of Chairman of the Board
of Directors of the Association of Consultants for Engineering and Environment,
which is based in Amman. He won several awards, the most important of which is
the Aga Khan Award for Islamic Architecture at its eighth session in 1999.

Aisha Bakkar Mosque in Beirut, as it

Certificate of Appreciation in 1990
from Her Majesty Queen Noor Al-Hussein for the efforts exerted in establishing,
developing and maintaining the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts.
Winner of the Arab Cities
Organization Award for Architects in 1992.
Winner of the World Habitat Award
for the SOS Children's Village project in Aqaba in 1993.
He holds a certificate for the best
building from the Jordanian Engineers Association for the building of the Arab
Insurance Company in 1993.
Received a certificate of
appreciation from the Engineers Syndicate for the best architectural project
presentation in 1993.
Winner of the Madinah Al Munawwarah
Award, Saudi Arabia for Architecture for the year 1997 on the project of the
Dar Al Hadith Institute in Madinah.
Winner of the Palestine Award for
Architecture, 1999 - 2000.
Recipient of the 2001 Aga Khan Award
for Architecture.
