Ramallah - Watan - Mai Ziada: "Thirst and sickness ... poisoned 700 citizens in Beit Furik with polluted water." The headline of the news that drew the engineer, Ata Nimr, after the chlorine level in the water fell to zero, which caused poisoning cases, according to What the Water Authority explained at the time, after conducting the necessary water tests.
Engineer Ataa searched for the cause of the large poisoning cases in the town of Beit Furik, and how it can help citizens and municipalities in combating the phenomenon of drinking water pollution, by finding an immediate and instant water testing mechanism through a phone application, for example, especially since the traditional methods of testing water are slow through taking one-time samples During the day, while pollution can occur at any point during the day, there is a need to monitor water quality moment by moment.
Engineer Ataa from Tulkarm, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Al-Quds University, invented a device to monitor water quality automatically, by using sensors that measure the level of some elements in the water such as chlorine and in the event of a defect or contamination in the natural ratios of any of these elements. The device sends readings to those responsible for examining water quality, in order to separate the water from the citizens so that they are not exposed to poisoning.
She said during her speech to Watan: The device is used by installing it on drinking water lines that supply citizens, to provide greater protection from the harm of poisoning due to contaminated water, as it sends alert signals in the event of contamination in the water before it reaches the citizens.
She indicated that it is preferable to use the device in municipalities and pumps that pump drinking water, because it is a specialized device for drinking water, and later modifications can be made to it to make it suitable for irrigating their crops.
Engineer Ataa explained that she got the project through her participation in the program "Empowering Young Palestinian Women Entrepreneurs in the Agricultural Sector in the West Bank and the Governorates of the Gaza Strip - Her Success" implemented by Save the Children in partnership with the Agricultural Development Association "Relief Agriculture" and the "Ma'an" Development Action Center. Through it, I received full support for the project, and obtained approval from the Tulkarm Municipality to test the project for them.
She pointed out that the device is now used in the municipality of Tulkarm in Bir al-Masnawi in Shweika, where readings are sent every hour to officials.
She pointed out that the device is the only one in Palestine and will be available for sale in the market within months, and is working to officially register her project as a patent in the Ministry of Economy.
