Information

Mirvat Fahmi Abu Shanab was born in the city of Tulkarm on March 7, 1975. She studied the primary stage at Shweika School, and the secondary stage at Jamal Abdel Nasser School, from which she completed her high school diploma in 1994. She joined Al-Quds Open University in 2015 in the field of “Social Service”.
Abu Shanab joined the ranks of the Palestinian Democratic Union (FIDA) in 2000, and rose through its organizational ranks from member to member of the body, then secretary of the party in the city of Tulkarm in 2012, and then in 2013 she was elected secretary of FIDA in the Tulkarm Governorate. She also became involved in the institutional work of the party, working as director of the Women’s Action Association affiliated with the party, and she communicates on behalf of the party with all Palestinian forces and factions in the governorate.
She participates in national anti-wall events in the Tulkarm Governorate, and was shot during one of the demonstrations in 2015.
She believes that the terms of the Oslo Accords are good, but the agreement has not provided anything to the Palestinian people, as a result of the occupation’s non-compliance with it, and the hope is that the agreement will be changed.
Abu Shanab believes that the Palestinian division and the deviation of the compass from the main goal of confronting the occupation complicates the national movement and prolongs the path towards achieving national goals. Therefore, all problems must be resolved, and national unity achieved. She believes that the division has brought destruction to the Palestinians, and there is no convincing reason for it to occur. There are two parties or one party that is not interested in making concessions in order to complete the reconciliation. She supports the use of all means of resistance, and believes that without resistance the land will not be returned to the Palestinian people, and that a stone has a greater impact on the occupation than the largest conference held. She strongly supports the entry of all Palestinian factions into the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority.
