Asmaa Mustafa is a Palestinian educator and activist. She won the Global Teacher Prize 2020. She graduated from the English Department at the Islamic University of Gaza in 2008. [
Asmaa Mustafa is known for her unconventional approach when it comes to her teaching methods. She implemented a paradigm shifting approach using creative ideas to teach English to her students through games and imaginative trips around the world . All of this she came up with while living in the besieged Gaza Strip of the State of Palestine with very limited access to the outside world .
She teaches English at Halima Al-Sadia Middle School for Girls in the Gaza Strip . She continued her work teaching English to students amid the global crisis of 2020, represented by the Covid-19 pandemic, as the pandemic brought the world to a virtual standstill. She won the Creative Teacher Award in Palestine for the year 2022. [ During the lockdown period caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, she came up with an innovative solution called the “Teachers Behind Screens ” initiative to train teachers virtually.
She was selected as the outright winner of the 2020 Global Teacher Prize after competing with teachers from around the world. She won the 2020 Global Teacher Prize after participating in the teacher competition where she also presented her thought process to the judges on how to use creative resources in teaching students.
