The young Palestinian woman, Alaa Fadil (21 years old), achieved first place in the individual table tennis championship for universities, which was held on 6/10/2023. This is the second time in a row that Alaa has won this title after she won it last year.
Alaa had participated in several previous tournaments and demonstrated her talent and skill in this sport. She achieved the gold medal in the West Asian Junior Girls Championship, first place in the Al-Kiswah District Schools Championship, and first place in the Syrian Clubs Championship for Junior Girls.
Alaa's father and her coach, Nizar Fadil, who works as a member of the Palestinian Table Tennis Sports Federation, expressed his pride in his daughter's achievement, noting that the federation faces financial difficulties in nurturing talent and developing their level.
He also pointed out that the difficult circumstances that Palestinian refugees are going through have negatively affected the achievement of the ambitions of players at the local and international levels.
The Palestinian sports movement in Syria suffers from neglect and lack of encouragement, with the exception of individual initiatives launched by some sports activists and those interested in sports affairs, to be their only outlet in light of the deteriorating service and living conditions, while many Palestinian athletes were able to achieve first places in many sports inside and outside Syria despite The difficult circumstances they live in.
