Researchers Professor Maher Al-Jaabari, engineer Rana Abu Ghayatha, and engineer Rawan Al-Aqili, from Environmental Technology Engineering at Palestine Polytechnic University, published a peer-reviewed research in the field of solid waste recycling in a distinguished scientific journal with a high impact factor. The research was published in the Journal of Environmental Management, Impact Factor 4. Last summer, the project won the Engineer Zuhair Hijjawi Award for Scientific Research at the level of the nation’s universities in the Environment category.
In the project, gelatinous materials were extracted and recycled from used baby diapers and applied in the field of irrigation management, as these materials, when mixed with the soil, absorb irrigation water and then gradually release it near the plant roots to improve irrigation efficiency. Complementary research is being prepared in partnership between researchers from the university and researcher Imad Al-Baba from the Environmental Quality Authority, in the field of studying the effect of using these water-absorbing materials on growth variables in plants.
