Laila Daoud Muhammad Ghannam (born May 29, 1975 in Deir Dibwan ) is a psychological and political counselor from Palestine . She is the only woman to hold the position of governor in the State of Palestine . [2]
Growing up and educational attainment [ edit ]
Laila Ghannam was born on May 29, 1975 in the town of Deir Dibwan, east of Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate, in the central West Bank . She received her school education in the town's schools, and graduated from high school in 1992. [3]
I joined Al-Quds Open University to study social development and obtained a bachelor’s degree in 2002. In 2004, I obtained a master’s degree in psychological counseling from Al-Quds University . Later, she obtained a doctorate from Minya University in mental health. [3]
Working life [ edit ]
Ghannam rose through the ranks, working in kindergartens and as a coordinator of rehabilitation programs for people with disabilities. In the period 2007-2009, she held the position of Director General of the Office of the Minister of Social Affairs . She worked as a part-time lecturer at Al-Quds Open University , and she has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Arab American University since 2017. [ 4] And a member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Istiqlal University . [3] [5]
On June 6, 2009, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. (102) of 2009, it was decided to transfer her from the Ministry of Social Affairs and appoint her as Deputy Governor of Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate and his acting governor. [6] Later, on January 22, 2010, Ghannam was sworn in as governor of Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate. [2] [3]
On August 8, 2022, the Palestinian President reconstituted the Board of Trustees of Al-Istiqlal University , and appointed her as a member. [7] [8]
