Information

Sheikh As'ad Sharaf al-Qadiri al-Hasani, a descendant of Imam al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (may God be pleased with them both), was born and educated in Nablus. He memorized the Holy Quran along with the rules of Tajweed (Quranic recitation), and received instruction in jurisprudence, Hadith, and Tafsir (Quranic exegesis) at the Great Salahi Mosque School, where Sheikh Abdullah Sufan was a teacher. Sheikh Musa Sufan was also among the school's teachers, and both played a significant role in producing generations of imams and preachers. He was among the first generation of teachers at the An-Najah School, which was founded in 1918. In addition to his memorization of the Holy Quran and his knowledge of Tajweed, he possessed a beautiful voice that qualified him to open major celebrations held in Nablus and other Palestinian cities.

The Sheikh continued teaching the Holy Quran to three generations until his death. He served as the imam of the Al-Satoun Mosque in Nablus for thirty years, and he had a daily lesson in preaching, guidance, and the science of Tajweed. The Sheikh enjoyed a high degree of respect and appreciation, and one of his students at An-Najah College employed him. “I don’t remember the late Sheikh As’ad Sharaf ever insulting any student or using a stick to discipline any of us during all the years we studied, and I never heard that he did that in the years before or after the divorce?”
