Abdul Karim Khalil Al-Kahlout was born in the depopulated village of Na'alia in the Gaza Strip on December 15, 1935. He completed his secondary education at the Al-Azhar Religious Institute in Cairo, graduating in 1960. He earned a bachelor's degree in Sharia and Law from Al-Azhar University in Cairo in 1966. He was appointed imam and preacher of the Great Omari Mosque in Gaza City, a position he held until 2014. He also taught at the Al-Azhar Religious Institute in Gaza City from 1971 to 2003, serving as a supervisor of Sharia and linguistic subjects for eight years, secretary of the Fatwa Committee for ten years, and a member of the Teachers' Selection Committee for fifteen years. He lectured at the Islamic University of Gaza from 1978 to 1996 and was chosen as the rapporteur for the curriculum committee at the university's Sharia College. He also lectured at Al-Azhar University in Gaza from 1994 to 1998 and was appointed Mufti of the Gaza Governorate. My years (1994-2006).
He was a member of the Supreme Fatwa Council between (1994-2014), worked at the Faculty of Da’wah in 2004, and was appointed Dean of Al-Azhar Institutes between (2005-2014).
He used to write articles in Noor Al-Yaqeen magazine issued by the Palestine Religious Institute, in addition to giving lectures, speeches and sermons in mosques, universities, association headquarters and clubs, and presenting fatwa and religious lessons programs on some Palestinian satellite channels.
He suffered throughout his life; he became blind at the age of two, and was forced to migrate with his family from his village to Gaza during the events of the Nakba in 1948. He lived through the difficult conditions of refuge in the Jabalia refugee camp for Palestinian refugees in the northern Gaza Strip, and died on February 24, 2014.
