Information

Abu Al-Iqbal Salim bin Hassan Al-Yaqoubi (1880 - 1941) (1297 - 1359 AH) was a Palestinian Muslim jurist , poet , and writer . He was born in the town of Lydda , near Jaffa , and studied there. Then he joined Al-Azhar in Cairo and resided there for twelve years. He was appointed a teacher at the Jaffa Mosque, then its mufti in 1932. He was referred to as Hassan Palestine and chose it as a literary pseudonym. He held a number of religious positions in Syria and Palestine in the fields of teaching, preaching, guidance, imamate, oratory, and issuing fatwas. He had his own students and a large presence in the mosque. He died in Mecca during his Hajj. He has several books and a poetry collection entitled The Seven Looks, and he also has Hasanat al-Baraa , a collection of his poetry in his youth.

His biography

Salim bin Hassan Al-Yaqoubi was born in the year 1297 AH/1880 AD in the city of Lod and grew up there. His roots go back to the city of Al-Majdal , and he was first taught by his father. He continued his early education there, then immigrated to Cairo and joined Al-Azhar , where he spent twelve years, where he received religious and Arabic sciences, after which he returned to his homeland in 1904.

He worked in education and worked as a teacher of legal sciences and literature in Syria, then a teacher at the mosque in the city of Jaffa . He was appointed its mufti in 1932, and held a number of government positions in Palestine, the last of which was the imamate and preacher at the Hassan Bey Mosque in the Al-Manshiya neighborhood of the city of Jaffa after his return from exile, where he had been exiled to Alexandria after the British Mandate for Palestine .
Salim Al-Yaqoubi died while performing the Hajj in 1359 AH / 1941 AD, or it is said 1365 AH / 1946 AD, and he was buried there.

His poetry

He chose the title Hassan Palestine to sign his published poems. He sang poetry, recited it in religious, national and social forums and events, and published it in newspapers. He has two collections of collections, Hasanat al-Baraa, collected in his youth, and The Seven Looks, which are a collection of thoughts, memories, and songs about Arabism, nationalism, and patriotism, published in 1930. It was mentioned in the Al-Babtain Dictionary about him: “ In the fabric of his poems are the remnants of tradition and traces of following, and the attempt at renewal and the poet’s listening to himself.” He wrote the national poem, and he interacted strongly with the events of his time: in poetry, in word, and in deed. He tried to innovate something, repeating the rhyme word (leaders) in seventeen successive lines. He also composed quatrains and stanzas. He had the ability to prolong it. As for his poem - and its extension - in lamenting his daughter, it was the same. A psychological and artistic significance that confirms his ability. »
