Muhammad Nimr Al-Khatib (1918-2010) is a Palestinian Muslim scholar, leader in the Muslim Brotherhood, and was a supporter of the Mufti of Palestine, Haj Amin Al-Husseini (Chairman of the Arab Higher Committee) during the Arab-Jewish conflict in Palestine during the British Mandate period and the first Arab-Israeli war, and worked in 1941 A.D. The sit-in association was established in Haifa. Al-Khatib is considered the first to write a book on the Palestinian cause, and he called it “From the Effect of the Nakba,” in which he talked about the events of the 1948 war in Palestine. The al-Khatib family held the reins of the fatwa and the supervision syndicate in Haifa during the time of Ottoman rule until the fall of Haifa.

On February 19, 1948, the Haganah targeted Al-Khatib, and attempted to assassinate him as part of what they called Operation Zarzeer, where two of the organization fired 32 bullets at a taxi in which Al-Khatib was traveling north of Haifa, while he was returning from Damascus loaded with weapons, and he was hit with one of the bullets in his lung. And three in his left shoulder, which led to his stay outside Palestine throughout the war period, and that attack resulted in the death of one of the passengers and the wounding of another.

Al-Khatib chose the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion at Al-Azhar, where he continued his studies for four years, after which he obtained a high degree, then returned to his home city of Haifa, after registering his name in the master’s department.

In the year 1938 A.D., the revolution of the Arab people took place in Palestine after the martyrdom of Sheikh Izz al-Din al-Qassam. Al-Khatib worked to lead the revolution against the British occupation and the Zionist invasion, so he was arrested in Haifa, then released. When he was appointed as a teacher at the Al-Burj Institute in Acre, he was arrested again and then released. In 1939, he fought other battles and was wounded in them.

In 1948, he was shot and transferred to Al-Makassed Hospital in Beirut, then to Damascus to complete his treatment. After that, he became a member of the Refugee Foundation in Syria and the Syrian delegation to the Islamic Conference in Karachi.
