Ibrahim Mahwi (1937 in Ramallah - ) is a translator, academic and literary critic from Palestine, specializing in Palestinian and Arabic literature, folk arts, and translation.
Childhood and educational attainment
Mahwi was born in Ramallah in 1937 to a Palestinian Christian family. After graduating from Friends School, he moved to the United States in 1959, and settled in San Francisco. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Heald College. He also earned a BA in English in 1964 from California State University at Hayward, a MA in 1966, and a Ph.D. in 1969, in English from the University of California, Davis.
the work
He worked as a lecturer of English at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario from 1969-1975, Al-Mahawi held a position at the University of Jordan in Amman from 1975-1977, then went to the West Bank to serve as head of the English department at Birzeit University from 1978 to 1980 He returned to work as Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Oregon in Eugene (2007).
