Biography

He left Jaffa with his family in 1948 for the Gaza Strip, settling in the Khan Younis refugee camp. There, he completed his primary, preparatory, and secondary education. He obtained his secondary school diploma in the humanities and enrolled in the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University, graduating in 1970.

He was appointed as an English teacher in a school in the Sayyida Zeinab district, but he did not stay long, choosing to resign to devote himself to literature and translation. He published numerous articles, short stories, and one-act plays in the newspaper "Akhbar Falastin" (Palestine News), which was published in Gaza between 1963 and 1967. He published several novels, the first of which was “And the Village Descended Stranger” in 1977. He translated more than 15 works from English, the first of which was “Children of the Siege” by Pauline Keating in 1989. He compiled or edited material for 6 works with others, the first of which was “Encyclopedia of Palestinian Writers in the Twentieth Century,” whose first edition was published in 1992. He remained a resident of Cairo from 1967 until his death in September 2001.
