Miguel Littín is a Chilean film director of Palestinian origin. He is regarded as one of the most respected filmmakers internationally and across Latin America, recognized not only for his artistic value but also for his contribution to social awareness throughout the continent.
He was appointed Minister of Culture and President of the Chilean Film Corporation by the former President of Chile, Salvador Allende.
In 1986, he was awarded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France. In 2002, he received the Medal of the Golden Eagle from Mexico in recognition of his contributions to cinema.
After the end of the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, he returned to Chile and served as Mayor of his hometown, Palmilla, for two consecutive terms.
