Iskandar Al-Khouri: A Palestinian writer and lawyer from the city of Beit Jala. He studied law at the Law Institute in Jerusalem during the British Mandate over Palestine. He was fluent in six living languages: Arabic, Turkish, English, French, Greek, and Russian. Al-Khouri served in the Palestinian judiciary as a magistrate until 1945, after which he practiced law.
He later worked as a legal advisor for the International Red Cross in the Hebron and Bethlehem areas, and then as an inspector for UNRWA schools. A distinguished literary figure, he wrote numerous poems and was a pioneer of narrative poetry in Palestine. His works often addressed social themes in long poetic compositions, and he also composed several national songs. Several master’s and doctoral theses have been written about him at various Arab universities, including Al-Azhar University in Egypt.
