On April 4, 2013, an Israeli court sentenced Saba'neh to five months in prison and a fine of 10,000 Israeli shekels , on charges of contacting hostile parties. The Israeli occupation had arrested Saba'neh on February 16, 2013 , upon his return from Jordan, after a week of work on a project with the Arab American University.

Sabaaneh is a member of the Cartoon Movement, a global network of cartoonists. He has participated in several media projects, including the 360 Degrees Project, and participated in a conference for American cartoonists in Oregon in 2010, where he presented on Arab cartoons. He is known for his politically critical cartoons against various Palestinian political movements and parties. His cartoons are usually published in Al-Hayat Al-Jadida Al-Filastiniyya . Palestinian prisoners were among the main topics he addressed in his cartoons. He has several cartoon books, including a black-and-white book of political cartoons from Palestine published by the American publishing house Just World Books, and a recently published comic book titled I Loved the Story. He is a member of the International Cartoon Movement and the VJ movement for visual journalists around the world. He won the 2024 AWK Political Cartoon Award.
His artistic style
In his drawings, Sabaaneh relies heavily on cubism, and sometimes abstraction, in an attempt to break traditional symbols and make each person a symbol. For example, a Palestinian appears without a mouth, embodying the activist who went on a hunger strike, and his actions became far removed from sound phenomena. He began trying to create new characters and a new environment for caricature work using very traditional methods of execution: pens, inks, and feathers, far from the computer or any means of technology. His drawings are often in black and white, and he believes that there is a scarcity in our political, national, and economic options. This scarcity is reflected in color in these paintings. He uses symbols to emphasize their importance and concepts, such as the key that symbolizes return, which he used a lot in his paintings. He also uses other techniques in his paintings, such as the linoleum engraving technique. Recently, he has begun using technology in his drawings.
